I dont think Microsoft's vision towards the Mobile market is what shoud be... for most of the other player's you mentioned (Excepto googles) it's their main focus. I know MS is as big than can be a big player in a lot of different areas (OS, Office Applications, Gaming Consoles, etc), but I dont feel MS is really doing a great effort in the mobility arena, specially with smartphones, even google with Android's seems like a more active player.

MS efforts seems really passive, they release an OS every so often and the .NET CF releases, power toys, service packs, dev tools, etc doesn't seem to keep up with their desktop counterparts (we have a lot of innovation with Silverlight, Services, ASP.NET, WPF, etc) or other SDKs (apple, rimm, android).

The developer community around Windows Mobile its also very passive, as an example look at the projects in codeplex or opennetcf. I don't know how are other Mobile devs communities....

This is just my impression, What do you think?

<evnet:views>0</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://www.visitmix.com/1162/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Hi Joshua,

Thanks for the comment! There are two reasons. First, as I mentioned, Facebook is really popular on iPhone already, as is MySpace. And Facebook works on Windows Mobile and BlackBerry. There is no sign that Apple is serious about trying to compete with Facebook and MySpace to make social network a primary feature across multiple devices from competitors, and it will be a massive uphill battle if they do.

Second, the article I cited was speculating about widget vendors and ad networks. I do not think that it is realistic to expect Apple to form a competitive ad platform for people using the SDK. Apple has chosen a transactional business model for the store, not an ad-funded model. The most popular apps (Facebook, MySpace, search) are already monetized through ad revenues from Google or Microsoft's ad networks. Since other monetize ads better than Apple can, any play to exclude people from using Google or MSFT ad newtwork would likely mean that Apple loses key applications. I think they would rather take their 30% up-front.

<evnet:views>0</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://www.visitmix.com/1159/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Hi Sta,
